Wolf Manhattan presents video for Breathe
song has guest vocals by Jenna-Marie Laine
The music video for Breathe, the second single out of Real Life is Overrated, the latest album by Wolf Manhattan, is presented today. Breathe talks about social anxiety and the pleasure of spending time alone.
Composed on the guitar, it was not initially intended to be a duet, explains João Veira: “it was only after recording the demo that the idea of it being a song for two emerged. Perhaps because the song needed to breathe more in the verses and make it lighter and somehow more pop.” The guest voice is from singer songwriter Jenna-Marie Laine, a Finnish artist that João Vieira met through YouTube whilst doing a cover of for The Velvet Underground.
The theme was produced by João Vieira and André Tentugal and mixed by Zé Nando Pimenta.
The video was filmed by Vasco Mendes and edited by André Tentugal.
Production was handled by João Vieira and Sofia Eggers. The puppet, made in the image of Jenna-Marie Laine, was made by the talented Mariana Fernandes from Estúdio Lavandaria and manoeuvred by the actor Ivo Romeu Bastos.
The blue sky carpets are designed by Sam Baron for the Portuguese carpet brand GUR. The idea for the video came from the artist. Inspired by the performances of Debbie Harry with the Muppets and Feist at Sesame Street, João thought about creating a similar environment, something done in the studio and felt that the idea of a picnic suited the song like a glove. He also wanted the music video to maintain the lo-fi aesthetic that belongs to the universe of Wolf Manhattan.
