ESTEVES SEM METAFÍSICA will be presenting her debut album de.bu.te. at NOS Alive Festival on july 11th

Esteves sem Metafísica was born Teresa in 1991. She grew up in Arruda dos Vinhos, where landscape and silence became the raw material for both her writing and her music. Holding a degree in Arts and Humanities from the Faculdade de Letras of the University of Lisbon, she began her creative path as a literary and music critic, contributing occasionally to the cultural magazine Brotéria since 2018.

In 2023, she independently published the poetry book A Morte não tem Pátria (Death Has No Homeland), an exercise in lucidity and fearlessness that marked the emergence of a raw and distinctive voice within the contemporary Portuguese scene. At the end of 2024, she undertook an artistic residency in Cernache, where she composed two of the songs featured on her debut album, de.bu.te. — a work that intertwines word, sound, and texture in a gesture of liberation from excess, reconciliation with the ordinary, and recognition of fragility as an unexpected source of strength.

Inspired by Álvaro de Campos’ character in Tabacaria, Esteves sem Metafísica embraces unrest as method and doubt as a point of departure. Her longstanding connection to The Beatles, fascination with Irish culture, literature as a companion to silence, and Fado as a secret lover — an old unrequited love — all testify to an artistic universe where melancholy, humour, intensity, lightness, and a relentless curiosity about human imperfection coexist.

On July 11th, Esteves sem Metafísica will take the Coreto Stage at NOS Alive to present de.bu.te., whose single “redenção” has spent four consecutive weeks in the Top 3 of Antena 3’s A3.30 chart, a ranking determined by public vote.

There is already white smoke rising from the simmering process of the next album. There is already as much — or as little — metaphysics as in the first one. It lies somewhere between the logical next step and a 157-degree turn. On the board, a new game is taking shape: one that preserves its anchors while recalculating the North. The cry remains rough, but now it knows it wants to leave the throat and settle somewhere beyond the body.
