Rui Maia AKA Mirror People has been one of the hottest producers to come out of Portugal in recent years with a string of stunning releases on highly respected labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bear Funk, Hands of Time and of course eclectic disco merchants Discotexas. In 2013 his single “Kaleidoscope” and remixes were played literally by everybody, specially the Psychemagik remix that stayed on Beatport’s charts for a few months!
For his new single Mirror People brings us a soulful pop ballad in the shape of “Come Over”, sang by Iwona Swakek (of polish duo Rebeka). Its fresh yet goes back in time for inspiration. Brian Eno, Air, Chomatics or David Sylvian and Ryuchi Sakamoto collaboration are all part of the equation of how to make a very beautiful song that will stick on your head for ages.
“Come Over” is out on February 7th on Beatport and on February 21st on all other digital stores. Its video was “remixed” by Rui Maia himself, through a Creative Commons license. The original material “Vera’s Heaven” was directed by Ponitail and Alexis Johnson, and stars Amanda Galli.
The “Come Over” Live Tour, will pass by Portugal between February and Abril 2014, starting on February 21st at Lux Club in Lisbon, with Mirror People, Andrew Weatherall (who has produced part of Primal Scream’s “Screamadelica”) and Ivan Smagghe (Black Strobe).
Live, this new show includes analog synthesizers, drum machines and effect pedals.
